Bengaluru: The family of 37-year-old Debadatta Patra, who suffered brain damage following a sudden cardiac arrest, set a remarkable example by donating his organs.
Originally from Odisha, Debadatta Patra resided in KR Puram, Bengaluru. On October 29, he experienced cardiac arrest and subsequently suffered irreversible brain damage.
In a noble gesture, Patra’s family decided to donate his kidneys, liver, heart, and corneas, thereby giving a new lease of life to those in critical need.
Dr. Sunil Karanth, Head of Department and Consultant – Critical Care Medicine at Manipal Hospital, lauded the family’s decision, stating, “The rate of organ donation after death in India is significantly lower than in countries like the United States. Despite their personal loss, Patra’s family chose to donate his organs, saving lives and inspiring others to consider this generous act.”
Debadatta Patra is survived by his wife, child, parents, and two siblings. Through this act of kindness, his family has set an example of compassion, offering hope to patients awaiting life-saving transplants.
