Subrahmanyapura police have arrested five friends of a deceased youth, in connection with his murder

The accused, identified as Chandrasekhar alias Pritam, Yashwant, Venkatesh, Prashanth, and Darshan alias Gunda, all residents of Subrahmanyapura, were taken into custody by the Subrahmanyapur police.

The victim, Darshan was fatally attacked with a cement brick in front of his friend Ramesh’s house.

The incident took place on January 24 at 2:30 am, when the accused allegedly assaulted Darshan with a cement brick and fled the scene, police said.

Yashwant, one of the accused, works as a delivery boy, while Chandrasekhar alias Pritam and Venkatesh are auto drivers. Prashant and Darshan alias Gunda worked as plumbers. The accused and the victim, Darshan, were friends, police added.

The tragic sequence of events began when Darshan was entrusted with Rs 3,000 by his aunt to purchase groceries for the household.  Instead, Darshan joined his friends Ramesh and Nitin at a bar. Pritam along with othter accused had also come there. A while later a quarrel ensued between Nitin and Pritam over a trivial matter. The altercation escalated, leading to a fight.

Following this, Darshan and his friends returned to Ramesh’s house to continue the party. However, the accused, fueled by the earlier dispute, approached Ramesh’s house and initiated a confrontation with Nitin.

In an attempt to defuse the situation, Darshan intervened, only to become the target of Pritam’s aggression. Pritam and the other accused ruthlessly attacked Darshan with a cement brick, leading to severe head injuries. Tragically, Darshan succumbed to his injuries on the spot, police added.

The police have registered a case and all five accused have been taken into custody to face legal consequences for their alleged involvement in the brutal murder. The motive behind the attack is suspected to be linked to the earlier altercation at the bar.

Further investigations are underway, police said.
