Bengaluru: In a bid to completely eradicate illegal fetal gender detection and termination in the state, the health department has announced an increased reward of Rs 1 lakh for individuals who provide tips leading to the identification of such activities.

Previously, informants who reported gender detection of fetuses in any hospital were awarded Rs 50,000. Now, this amount has been doubled to Rs 1 lakh. The reward will be distributed as follows: Rs 50,000 will be provided under the National Health Campaign for accurate information about clandestine operations, and an additional Rs 50,000 will come from the PC and PNDT (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques) fees collected in the respective districts.

The Commissioner of the Health Department has issued a circular outlining these new measures, emphasizing the department’s commitment to preventing the illegal practice of fetal gender detection and termination.
