Bengaluru: A 40-year-old housemaid was arrested by JB Nagar police for allegedly stealing gold worth Rs 5 lakh from her employer’s residence.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ruchitha Jadhav (40). The woman claimed that she committed the crime to fund the treatment of her elder brother, who is suffering from certain health complications.

It is said that Ruchitha Jadhav joined Thrupti Mithun Chikhalikhar’s residence as a housemaid in June’s first week as Thrupti had given birth to a baby girl on May 24. Ruchitha’s responsibility was to look after Thrupti and her daughter.

Recently, Thrupti found that her gold ornaments were missing and Ruchitha too had been absent for the past few days. On July 20, Chikhalikhar lodged a police complaint stating that her domestic help, Ruchitha, stole her gold ornaments.

JB Nagar police registered a case under Section 381 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code, arrested Ruchitha and recovered the gold ornaments from her.
