Bengaluru: Instagram friend dupes couple of Rs 7 lakh on pretext of sending costly gift

Bengaluru: The cyber fraud menace has increased manifold in recent times, in another shocking incident, a couple paid over Rs 7 lakh for a fake gift.
The couple lost a hefty amount to a miscreant who befriended the wife on Instagram.
After chatting for a few days on Instagram they exchanged their WhatsApp numbers and started texting each other. The accused then, later on, said that he had sent her a gift (I-phone and foreign currencies)
After a few days, she got calls from various unknown numbers to receive her package as it is stuck with customs officials.
After they pressurised her, she transferred Rs 7, 34,810 to their account. When the couple did not receive their gift package, they registered a complaint against an unknown person.
