Bengaluru: Police officials have arrested a 39-year-old man from Kundapur on the charge of cheating people after promising to get them government jobs.
The arrested accused has been identified as Raghava alias Raghavendra (39), a resident of JP Nagar and a native of Basrur, Kundapur. He earlier used to be a land surveyor.
It is said that Raghava claimed to be ‘deputy development commissioner’ with ‘Government of India-Survey of India’. He even showed his victims an ID card with the designation.
He took at least Rs 10 lakh from each victim along with two blank cheques and an empty bond paper signed by them.
Raghava claimed that the cheques were necessary to open a salary account and the bond paper was needed for filing an affidavit.
As soon as the victims realize that they have been cheated and threaten him to file a police complaint, Raghava would deposit one of the cheques with a large sum to ensure it would bounce.
Then he would file a cheque bounce case against them. Also, on the empty bond paper, he would mention that the victim had taken a loan of Rs 20 lakh from him.
Several cases have been filed against him in various parts of the state.
