Bengaluru: A shocking act of animal cruelty has come to light in the Vidyaranyapura police station limits, where a German Shepherd was brutally beaten to death with a stick. The accused allegedly killed the dog claiming it had eaten his chicken.

Pushpalatha, an Anganwadi Asha worker residing in Vaderahalli, Vidyaranyapura, owned a one-year-old German Shepherd along with cows and chickens. She would routinely feed her animals in the morning before heading to work.

On December 24, she leashed the dog in front of her house and left for work. Upon returning in the evening, she noticed severe injuries on the dog’s face and mouth. Despite treatment, the dog succumbed to its injuries on January 3.

Suspecting foul play, Pushpalatha checked the CCTV footage installed outside her house.

The video revealed the accused, Manoj, mercilessly attacking the dog with a stick. When Pushpalatha confronted him, Manoj reportedly used abusive language and even attempted to assault her, police said.

During interrogation, Manoj admitted that he attacked the dog in anger after it allegedly ate his chicken. A case has been registered against him, and police are investigating the matter.
