A man was murdered by his wife and sister-in-law for allegedly having an extra-marital affair, police said.

Police said Nazira Khatoon (25) and her sister Kashmiri (28), both natives of Bihar have been arrested for the murder of Shakeel Akhtar Saif (28) in Sampigehalli. Nazira and Kashmiri allegedly strangled Shakeel with a veil on October 10, disposing of his body in a pit.

Shakeel, a Bihar native, had been living in Bengaluru for six years, running an event lighting company. His second marriage to Nazira in 2018 led to conflicts with his first wife, who returned to Bihar with their children.

Shakeel’s affair with a 19-year-old neighbor further strained relations.

Reportedly, Shakeel neglected financial support for his wife and child, and frequently quarreled with Nazira, even threatening divorce. This drove Nazira to plot her husband’s death, police said.

According to police, on the fatal night, Nazira, with Kashmiri’s help, suffocated Shakeel. They disposed of the body in a drain pit. After this, Nazira deceitfully reported Shakeel as missing, prompting his brother to file a complaint at Sampigehalli police station.

Detecting a foul odor emanating from the pit in Kogilu Layout, police were called leading to the discovery of the body. Investigations later confirmed Shakeel’s identity.

Nazira and Kashmiri are now in police custody, awaiting legal proceedings.
