Bengaluru: Man pours petrol on partner, sets her on fire

Bengaluru: A 23-year-old woman succumbed to burn injuries after her partner allegedly poured petrol on her and torched her.

The victim identified as Daneshwari got acquainted with the accused Shivakumar Chandrashekar Hirehala while they were pursuing an engineering course in the same college in Vijayapura district. They started a relationship thereafter.

After their studies, they settled in Bengaluru and continued their relationship.

In her complaint, the victim’s sister Tejaswini stated that he accused promised Daneshwari of marriage.

However, when the victim brought up the matter of marriage, the accused said that he would speak and seek the blessings of his parents for their alliance. After coming back from Vijayapura, the accused told Daneshwari that he can not marry her as she belonged to the Dalit community and broke off the relationship,

The victim had gone to his workplace and pleaded with the accused to marry her but he verbally abused her and made casteist remarks against her.

According to the complaint, the accused had later called her to an isolated place, poured petrol on her, and allegedly torched her.

After he had taken the victim to a hospital, he escaped. The victim succumbed to her injuries on March 15.

A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Atrocities Act and IPC Section 302 (murder).
