Bengaluru: Karnataka Urban Development Minister BA Basavaraj and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta visited and reviewed the city’s flood-prone areas ahead of monsoon.

They visited Hennur Main Road, Sai Layout, and Geddalahalli areas. According to BBMP officials, they examined the situation and instructed the officials to resolve the pending issues immediately.

Chief Engineer (SWD) Prahallad said water flows through the Hebbal Valley to the Kalkere and Rampura lakes, and waterlogging occurs only if the rainfall is more than 80 mm.

In order to address this issue, the narrow railway bridge near the Hebbal Valley should be widened for which permission has been granted by railways. After which, there would be no problem in the area even if there was 130 mm of rain.

Also, Byrathi Basavaraj promised the residents to solve the issue related to Hennur main road immediately. They also visited several lakes around the city. Waste water treated by the STP of BWSSB near Horamavu is released into the 183-acre Kalkere lake, as a result of which the lake is always full.

In this regard, officials have been instructed to empty two feet of water before the monsoon so that the rainwater flows smoothly into the lake.

The officials visited Rampura Lake and reviewed the progress of desilting and channel diversion work. Further they instructed the officials to clear the silt and complete the work on the diversion channel without any delay.
