Bengaluru: NHAI official, 4 others held in Rs 20 lakh bribery case

Bengaluru: The CBI has arrested the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Regional Officer in Bengaluru and four others, including the top officials of a company, in an alleged Rs 20 lakh bribery case.
The arrested accused include NHAI regional officer Akil Ahmad and four other private persons, including a general manager and executive director of a private firm.
The names of the other accused include General Manager Retnakaran Sajilal, Executive Director Devendra Jain, Officer – Sunil Kumar Verma of Dilip Buildcon Pvt Ltd and a private person Anuj Gupt.
Akil Ahmad apparently had the habit of demanding/accepting illegal gratification from contractors for clearing pending bills and issuing a certificate for a completed project, according to CBI.
The CBI officials are conducting searches at the premises of the accused at Bengaluru, New Delhi, Gurugram, Bhopal and Kochi.
