Bengaluru: A pani puri vendor was brutally murdered following an altercation between two individuals under the influence of alcohol.
The deceased has been identified as Sarvesh Singh (32), a resident of Konappana Agrahara.
The incident occurred late Sunday night, around 11:30 PM, near the Konappana Agrahara Circle on the Bengaluru-Hosur Highway. According to police reports, the accused, Sahadev (45) and Rahul Kumar (26), both from Jharkhand, have been arrested in connection with the murder.
What happened?
Sarvesh Singh, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had been running a roadside pani puri stall in front of the Konappana Agrahara Municipal Office for the past 12 years. He lived with his wife and children in a rented house in the same locality. After closing his business on Sunday night, Sarvesh went to a nearby bar to have a drink.
At the bar, the accused were sitting at a nearby table and were reportedly using offensive language while speaking loudly. Sarvesh, disturbed by their behavior, asked them to lower their voices. This request angered the accused, leading to an altercation between them and Sarvesh.
Followed and fatally attacked
Bar staff intervened and sent all three men outside, hoping to resolve the matter. However, once outside, while Sarvesh was smoking a cigarette, the accused approached him again and started provoking him. Sarvesh tried to leave, crossing the highway to head home, but the accused followed him.
The accused then resumed the fight, allegedly pushing Sarvesh to the ground by kicking him. They picked up tiles from a nearby parking area and used them to strike Sarvesh on the head, causing fatal injuries. The accused fled the scene after the attack. Police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident, and Sarvesh’s body was sent for postmortem examination.
Accused arrested
The police registered a case and managed to apprehend the accused within a few hours of the incident. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had recently arrived in Bengaluru, about a month ago, and were working as construction laborers.
The Electronic City police station is handling further investigations into the case.
