Bengaluru police team awarded Rs 1 lakh for Bangladesh woman gangrape probe

Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant on Wednesday announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for the police team for its investigation into the gangrape of a Bangladeshi woman.

Police arrested 12 accused and filed a 1019-page charge-sheet in a record time of five weeks, the Commissioner said. The arrests were made after a video of the purported incident went viral online.

The police traced the victim in Kerala and brought her to the city on May 30. The police had arrested five accused persons including, a woman, seen in the video in June. Two of the accused were shot in the leg on June 2 when they tried to escape.

The accused were traced to Bengaluru, following which the city police uncovered a prostitution racket involving women being brought to the country illegally from Bangladesh.

Eleven accused have been arrested and the police filed a 1019-page chargesheet before the court .
