Bengaluru riots: Sampath Raj sent to 14 days judicial custody

Bengaluru: Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil informed that former Congress mayor Sampath Raj was sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a Bengaluru court on Friday.
Raj was arrested on Monday night by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Bengaluru City Police for instigating violence in parts of the city, allegedly after a derogatory social media post appeared online, he was sent to police custody initially, till Friday.
Sampath was produced before the court on Friday which ordered judicial custody.
The investigating team said it has gathered “crucial information” about his role in the arson orchestrated at Congress MLA Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy’s residence in Kaval Byrasandra on August 11.
“We have interrogated him thoroughly and had taken him for inspection at few places linked to the case,” an officer said.
