Bengaluru: In a bizarre incident, a 21-year-old rowdy sheeter snatched a piece of gold chain from a woman and swallowed it before getting caught on Saturday, August 21.

The accused has been identified as Vijay Gunda Thali. He carried out the crime with his associates Sanjay and Prem who are still on the run.

It is said that  Vijay tried to snatch a chain from the complainant Hema on MT road in the city market but she held on to it and did not let it go.

As she raised an alarm, people nearby rushed to her help and the three tried to flee from the spot. However, passers-by caught Vijay who had a small piece of chain in his hand, and trashed him.

He quickly swallowed the piece to show the public that his associates had run off with it. He was later handed over to the police.

As he was thrashed by the public, police officials took him to Victoria hospital for a medical check-up. The cops still did not have any idea about the gold chain being swallowed by him.

However, during the X-Ray, it revealed that he had swallowed the gold chain.  The doctors suggested making him eat bananas so that the chain comes out when he poops.

But, as it did not work, doctors gave a syrup which is given to treat constipation which makes stool easier to pass by drawing water to the bowel. After a couple of hours, police were able to recover the gold.

Vijay has been arrested and is under treatment for the injuries at Victoria hospital.
