Bengaluru: The Hanumantanagar police officials have arrested two members of the ‘chaddi gang’ who were involved in a string of vehicle thefts and chain-snatching incidents in Bengaluru.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sunil Kumar (37) of Pantarapalya, Ambedkar Nagar and Srinivasa (25) of Vinayak Layout.
A 27-gram gold chain and 13 two-wheelers including the vehicle used in the crime were seized from the accused.
The modus operandi in most chain-snatching crimes involving the chaddi gang is the same. The accused speed towards women walking alone in a desolate area and get away after yanking off their neck chains.
Sunil Kumar, the accused, was imprisoned for 8 years until 2016. He later escaped from jail and returned to his old ways, only to be apprehended by the police.
How were they caught?
The victim, Jayashree was walking near the 5th main road of Hanumantanagar at 3.30 p.m. on January 4 when the accused approached from the opposite side on a two-wheeler and blocked Jayashree. They later threatened her with a knife, snatched her chain and fled from the spot.
After 15 days of continuous operation following the incident, authorities investigated hundreds of CCTV cameras around the crime scene and eventually apprehended the two culprits.
