Bengaluru: An incident of a woman using a fake death certificate of her husband to claim widow pension has come to light at Magadi Road police station limits here.
The husband of the woman filed a complaint against her after seeing the death certificate himself.
The husband and wife, Bhaskar and Sujata, were not living together for two years after a domestic quarrel.
While he was away Sujata filed fake documents with the local BBMP office claiming that her husband was dead and received a death certificate.
She filed for widow pension using the death certificate and received the monthly pension for over a year.
When Bhaskar returned home a few months ago, he was shocked to see his death certificate while searching for some other documents at home. He later filed a complaint against his wife with the police.
The police have started an investigation and have written to BBMP to provide the details of the staff at the local BBMP office who provided the death certificate to Sujata without properly verifying the documents.
