Bengaluru: Police arrested a 32-year-old youth in connection with the theft of cars while posing as a used car dealer and recovered and seized seven cars from his possession
The arrested, Srinivas N, a resident of Chikkasanne in Devanahalli happens to be a school dropout and used to work as a car mechanic.
As per the complaint filed by Anil Kumar with Mahalakshmipuram police, Srinivas had contacted him over the phone, saying that he got his contact through a common friend and evinced interest in buying Kumar’s Toyota Etios Liva car. The duo then met near Mahalakshmi Metro station and Srinivas asked to take the vehicle for a test drive. As he failed to return after some time, Kumar tried to contact him over the phone but it was switched off.
Police investigating the case found similar cases, reported in Rajagopal Nagar police limits. Kumar identified Srinivas when the police showed him his photo in their records.
According to the police, Srinivas was arrested twice on similar charges. In 2018, Rajagopal Nagar police recovered 11 used cars stolen by Srinivas after taking them for test drive. In February this year, Doddaballapur police arrested him and recovered nine cars.
