Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme was launched in 2018-19 by the central government with an aim to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls in India. Considering the imbalance in the male-female sex-ratio in Dashina Kannada, Yadagiri, Haveri and Gadag, the governemt had selected these four districts to enjoy the benefit under this scheme.

In the 2019-20 term, the scheme had been changed slightly and every girl child born on the 1st of every month was eligible to receive Rs 1000 under the scheme. So far a sum of Rs 75,000 has been distributed to 75 baby girls born since April till now. The amount will be provided to the infant development officer of the respective taluks, who in turn will hand over the amount to the respective families.

All baby girls are eligible

As per the scheme, there is no difference regarding the selection based on the financial state of the family of the new born baby girl. Child development project officer of the respective taluks will gather information regarding the baby girls born on the 1st of every month and submit the data to the department. Last year, the union government released Rs 42,97,249 for DK district and this year, Rs 50 lakh has been reserved.
