Bhawna Kanth, first woman fighter pilot to participate in Republic day parade

Flight Lieutenant Bhawna Kanth, one of the country’s first female fighter pilots will take part in the Republic Day parade on January 26, making her the first pilot to do so.

Bhawna Kanth is posted at an airbase in Rajasthan and flies the MiG-21 Bison fighter plane currently. Bhawna will be a part of the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) tableau which will showcase mock-ups of the light combat aircraft, light combat helicopter and the Sukhoi-30 fighter jet.

Hailing from Darbhanga in Bihar, Kanth was born and brought up in Begusarai. She went to Barauni Refinery DAV Public School and later graduated with a bachelor of engineering in medical electronics from BMS College of Engineering in Bengaluru.

Kanth got the opportunity to opt for the fighter stream after clearing Stage I training.
