A teenager from Bihar, suffering from a rare tumor has 82 teeth removed from his jaw in a 3-hour operation.
Nitesh Kumar, a 17-year-old, suffered from complex odontoma, a tumor of the jaw, for the last five years. In order to fix his jaw, which had a total of 82 teeth in two huge lumps, Nitish had to undergo an operation.
The 17-year-old was unable to get proper treatment for years until, he consulted doctors at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Bihar, where he was able to get a date for his operation.
The scans revealed his jaw was severely swollen and his face distorted due to the excess teeth, showing a huge collection of teeth sitting at the bottom of his mouth.
Dr. Priyankar Singh from the maxillofacial unit, with the assistance of Dr. Javed Iqbal, completed the complex operation.
Last year, an Indian doctor extracted a tooth measuring 3.9 cm, that was tipped to set the Guinness world record for ‘world’s longest tooth’.
