Bike collision kills woman police personnel

Kundapur: A lady who was riding pillion with her husband died on the spot after the bike she was riding on collided into another bike at opposite Kumbasi Anegudde Ganapati Mukhamantapa on Wednesday night July 31. The bike rider was also seriously injured in the accident.

The victim is identified as Hema (32), who was a woman police personnel working at the office of the SP of Udupi district. Hema’s husband Nagaraj Kotwal (35), a resident of Teggarse near Byndoor in the taluk and second division clerk at the office of Kundapur assistant conservator of forests has sustained grievous injuries in the accident.

The couple had been to attend the farewell party of a forest officer that was held at the Gayatri Hall and were returning on their bike, when the Bullet bike that was over-speeding from Kundapur towards Udupi hit against the bike of the couple. The force of the impact was such that Hema, who was riding pillion was thrown on the road and the injuries she sustained thereof claimed her life on the spot. Meanwhile Nagaraj also sustained critical head injury and is being treated in a private hospital at Manipal

The bike which collided with the bike the couple was riding is said to be of Udupi registration and there is no more information regarding the bullet bike rider.

Udupi SP Nisha James has visited the spot and further investigation is being conducted. Kundapur police have registered a case in this connection.
