Punjalakatte: A bike rider crashed into an auto-rickshaw while the police were conducting inspection at B C Road, in front of Udaya laundry on Saturday afternoon. The collision ended up injuring three people including the bike rider Shareef (20).
Shareef is a local and has been admitted at a local hospital. The auto rickshaw driver Ivan Vincent D’Souza (43) and onr Alice D’Souza (72) have sustained injury. Three female passengers in the rickshaw survived without any injury.
A traffic police team were stopping vehicles and conducting inspection where the service road meets the highway. The police usually stop vehicles coming speedily down from the flyover, for inspection. On this occasion, the vehicles were supposed to stop of the left hand side, thereby the vehicle coming with speed from behind led into a confusion.
As the police were conducting inspection near the decline of the flyover, a bike ended up ramming into an auto rickshaw and the impact hurled the rickshaw off over the retaining wall. The collision smashed both the vehicles.
Public outrage
Immediately the public gathered and expressed outrage against the police. A video clip on the public’s outrage against the police has gone viral on social media. It is alleged that the conduction of inspection at any place causes such accidents.
Attempt to escape: SI
Shareef was not wearing a helmet and in his attempt to escape from the inspection collided with the auto rickshaw. The accident is not because of any confusion created by the vehicle inspection by the police, said Bantwal Traffic Police SI.
