Mangaluru: BJP corporator Vijay Kumar Shetty has alleged huge embezzlement of funds in the Indira canteens.
Shetty voiced his concern during the monthly council meeting of the Mangaluru City Corporation in the city on Wednesday, December 26. He questioned why the Corporation was paying the contractor a bill for 500 people every day when hardly 100 people might be visiting the premises.
Shetty said that barring the canteen located near the Lady Goschen Hospital most of the other canteens do not have a footfall of over 100 people. Further he queried if anyone was verifying the number of tokens distributed at the canteens.
Responding to Shetty’s allegations, MCC Mayor K Bhaskar said that the corporation will initiate suitable action if the said misappropriation has taken place after ascertaining the facts by checking the CCTV footage of these canteens. He added that an officer will be nominated to verify the functioning of Indira canteens.
