Renukacharya, a senior BJP leader who was defeated in the Karnataka Assembly elections on Saturday, has announced his retirement from electoral politics.

Speaking to the reporters, he said, “We lost the elections despite our efforts at development work and during the pandemic outbreak. As a result, I am retiring from electoral politics and will concentrate on working for party candidates.”

Following this, fans and activists gathered outside the residence of MP Renukacharya in Honnali on Sunday morning. The announcement has shocked his supporters, who have been protesting for him to withdraw his retirement declaration.

During the protest, an activist also attempted suicide by consuming poison, but was immediately stopped by other activists.
