New Delhi: Senior BJP leaders today congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for recent GST rate cuts, saying it lays a sound foundation for a new India. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said the BJP-led NDA government was the “most sensitive” towards people and their ambitions.
“The poorest people are the central point of our policy- making. The recent slashing of GST rates have been welcomed by all, especially the trades,” he said. He said the decision was taken by the prime minister and the finance minister on the feedback given by BJP chief Amit Shah.
Union minister and BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the slashing of GST rates proves that the Modi government makes decision based on the feedback received from the people. “I thank both prime minister and finance minister for taking these long-lasting reforms which will benefit the generations to come and will lay a strong foundation for a new India,” he said.
In its meeting yesterday, the GST council cut the tax rates on over 200 items, to provide relief to consumers and businesses amid economic slowdown. As many as 178 items of daily use were shifted from the top tax bracket of 28 per cent to 18 per cent, while a uniform 5 per cent tax was prescribed for all restaurants, both air- conditioned and non-AC.
