Mangaluru: BJP MLA Umanatha Kotian has accused the Dakshina Kannada District Commissioner (DC), Mullai Muhilan, of disrespecting him by not informing him about the government-sponsored Pilikula Kambala event.

Kotian expressed his frustration, stating that he had not been informed about the Kambala event in his own constituency. “As per the Kambala Committee’s decision, there is a Kambala at Pilikula. According to protocol, the local MLA should be the president of the Kambala Committee. A meeting was held on the 4th of this month, but I was not informed about it,” he said.

Kotian further accused the DC of conducting meetings and preparations for the Kambala without involving him. He claimed this was not the first time he had been sidelined, citing other instances such as the MRPL Phase 4 expansion, the international surfing competition, and meetings held during the airport’s rain-related mishaps.

The MLA declared that he would file a breach of privilege motion against the DC for consistently disrespecting him at various levels. He has already lodged a complaint with the Speaker, the Chief Secretary, and the District In-Charge Secretary. Kotian also announced that BJP MLAs would lead a protest in front of the DC’s office in the near future.

Additionally, Kotian remarked that if the DC had political aspirations, he should resign like Sasikanth Senthil did and enter politics. He questioned whether he was being disrespected because he belonged to a backward class.

MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Dr. Y. Bharat Shetty were also present during Kotian’s statement.
