Bengaluru: BJP MLA from Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency, Munirathna, was remanded to 14 days of judicial custody in a rape case by the Special Court for People’s Representatives on Saturday (October 5).
Following the completion of his Special Investigation Team (SIT) custody today, Munirathna was produced before the special court. The court has ordered his judicial custody until October 19, and he will once again be lodged in Parappana Agrahara Jail.
The SIT officers conducted a medical examination of Munirathna before presenting him in court. During the hearing, the SIT requested the court to grant further custody of the MLA. However, the court instead ordered a 14-day judicial remand.
At the hearing, Munirathna’s lawyers requested the court to allow his family to provide him with home-cooked meals. The court directed them to submit this request to the prison authorities and advised that if permission is denied, they could file a petition in court.
Munirathna was previously arrested on charges of threatening a BBMP contractor and making casteist slurs.
