Mangaluru: Amid the chorus for recognizing Tulu as the official language of the state, Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath has proposed that schools be allowed to use Tulu as the medium of instruction for students from Class 1-5.

Kamath submitted a request in this regard to Education Minister Suresh Kumar on Friday, Aug 28.

The request is in accordance to the National Education Policy (NEP) approved by the Union Cabinet on July 29, 2020. The policy says that wherever possible the medium of instruction in schools until Grade V — preferably until Grade VIII — should be the mother tongue or the local or regional language.

Earlier yesterday, a delegation of leaders from the coastal region met chief minister BS Yediyurappa for recognition of Tulu as the official language of the state
