Mangaluru: Gram panchayats officials have been instructed to provide yellow and black plastic bags for the disposal of biomedical and other wastes during home isolation.

Covid infected people have to mandatorily undergo ten days of home isolation and the wastes they produce during this period have to be scientifically disposed to avoid spreading of the infection.

The black bag is meant for normal waste and yellow bags are for medical waste such as masks, gloves etc.

The bags should be sprayed with 1 per cent sodium hypochlorite. The vehicles carrying waste also should be sprayed with insecticide.

Waste in the black bag can be disposed of just like any other waste and the waste in the yellow bag has to be gathered at specific spots at the primary health centres. The agency meant for medical waste disposal will take away the waste from there.
