Blood type could determine your Covid-19 risk: Study
Team Udayavani, Jun 18, 2020, 6:26 PM IST
A recent study that analysed the data of Covid-19, found that those with type A blood were at increased risk for respiratory failure.
The study analysed the patients hospitalized for Covid-19 and found that those who had Type A blood were more likely to have severe disease while those with Type O were less likely.
It also involved scientists in Italy, Spain, Denmark, Germany and other countries who compared about 2,000 patients with severe Covid-19
These studies all highlight a set of six genes located on the chromosome near the region that encodes the ACE2 protein, the receptor of SARS-CoV-2.
However, the findings are still far from absolute as some patients with blood type O still suffered respiratory failure, while some with type A did not.
