Bengaluru: Continuing its demolition drive, the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) on Tuesday vacated trespassers on a 22-gunta public land worth Rs 30 crores.

There were complaints that encroachers had set businesses by constructing temporary sheds on the BDA land on Alahalli Survey number 4/1 in JP Nagar 9th Phase 1st Block. Officials, armed with orders from BDA Commissioner, reached the spot under tight police security and demolished 6 temporary sheds.

Recently, BDA Chairman S R Vishwanath instructed officials to take action to reclaim the land from encroachers.

Criminal case against encroachers: Vishwanath cautions

Reacting to the developments, BDA Chairman S.R. Vishwanath said land grabbers in connivance with some officials had encroached on BDA land using fake NOCs. Criminal cases will be filed against erring officials as well as squatters who have illegally grabbed public land, he warned.

He also called for encroachers to voluntarily return the BDA land, otherwise, strict legal actions would be initiated against them.
