The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police apprehended six drug peddlers from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, foiling their plans to supply drugs at New Year parties. Seizures amounting to more than Rs 33 lakh were made in connection with three separate cases.
In the first case, the CCB arrested three individuals, including the owner of a Salem-based event management company, for allegedly trafficking hydro ganja and party drugs using Bitcoin on the dark web. The accused—Lingesh Narayan (23), Suraj (24), and Shahrukh Khan (27)—were residents of Salem. The police seized 24 ecstasy tablets, 40 grams of hydro ganja, and 2 kg of marijuana. A case has been registered against them at Adugodi police station.
The trio, who had been residing in Adugodi for the past three years, allegedly brought various drugs, including hydro ganja and ecstasy, through the dark web using Bitcoin. They targeted tech professionals, students, and individuals celebrating the New Year, selling the substances at inflated prices. The arrests were made following a raid conducted by the CCB based on gathered intelligence.
In another case, Hiran (25), a Kerala native involved in selling narcotic ganja and MDMA, was arrested, with seizures including 3.1 kg of marijuana and 20 grams of MDMA crystals. Hiran sourced drugs from a neighboring state and sold them in the city. The CCB conducted a raid at his residence, leading to his arrest and the confiscation of the illicit substances.
Additionally, two individuals, Shreyas (24) and Rahul (25) from Kerala, were arrested in a separate case. Seizures from this operation included MDMA crystals (150 grams), 200 LSD strips, and 25 ecstasy pills. The police also confiscated Rs 25 lakh from the accused. The arrests were made based on information indicating their involvement in bringing drugs from other states and selling them at higher prices locally.
The successful operations were conducted under the leadership of ACP D. Kumar and Inspector R Deepak of CCB Narcotics Squad.
