A 20-year-old youth who was reported missing since Monday was murdered and his body dumped near a stormwater drain southern Bengaluru, police said.
On Monday, the deceased identified as Tarun, a resident of Bharathinagar had left home saying that he was going to get firecrackers. When he did not return home, his parents enquired about his whereabouts with Tarun’s friends and relatives and later filed a missing complaint with RR nagar police.
A day later, a ragpicker noticed a suspicious gunny bag dumped near a stormwater drain in Banashankari and notified the police. Upon checking, the police found a youth’s dead body stuffed inside the bag. The youth, police said appeared to have been strangulated or suffocated to death, his hands and legs were tied with a rope, and his mouth and nose gagged with adhesive tapes.
As the police did not find anything that could reveal his identity, a photo was circulated to all police stations and RR Nagar cops identified him as Tarun.
The police suspect that Tarun might have known his assailants. A team has been formed to nab the culprits, police said.
