Rajajinagar police have arrested a youth in connection with the suicide of a 19-year-old student, Priyanka, following allegations of harassment and non-return of gold ornaments worth ₹15 lakh.

The arrested individual, identified as Diganth, a resident of Rajajinagar, was a close acquaintance of the deceased. Priyanka, a first-year B.Com student at a private college in the city, was found dead by hanging at her residence on November 28.

A death note discovered at the scene mentioned Diganth’s name, leading the police to investigate and detain him.

According to police reports, Priyanka had entrusted Diganth with gold ornaments valued at ₹15 lakh a few months ago. Despite repeated requests, he failed to return them, citing various excuses. This led to severe distress for Priyanka, who ultimately took her own life.

Upon inspecting Priyanka’s mobile phone, police found a death note concealed behind its back cover. The note explicitly accused Diganth of harassment and mental torture, blaming him for her extreme step.

The deceased’s parents have alleged that Diganth befriended their daughter knowing that her father was a gold trader. They claimed he lured her into giving him the jewelry, promising high returns through investments in casinos.

Diganth has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. A case has been registered under relevant sections, and further investigations are underway.
