Bengaluru: Suddagunte Palya Police have arrested six persons on charges of creating fake profiles of women on dating websites by using their social media photos and using the same to cheat others.
The arrested identified as Manjunath alias Sanju, Mallikarjunaiah, Manjunath alias Bulle, Mohan, Hanumesh, and Rajesh alias Kothi are all residents of Bengaluru and are also said to be involved in the prostitution business for several years.
The accused would create profiles of women on the Locanto App by using photos posted on Facebook, Twitter, etc. They would then send the photos to specific customers. If any person elicited interest in the photos, the accused would ask them to transfer advance money on the assurance of sending the woman as per the negotiations.
However, later a different woman would be sent across and in case any person questioned them the accused would allegedly threaten and blackmail them for more money.
Acting on credible information about prostitution activities, police conducted raids and arrested the accused.
