A Karnataka High Court advocate was found dead at her apartment in Annaiah Layout, Sanjaynagar here on Saturday morning, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Chaithravathi (34), wife of KAS officer Shivakumar who is currently serving as assistant commissioner of KIADB.

The couple got married in 2016 and have a five-year-old son. It is gathered that Chaitravati’s brother resided in another flat in the same apartment building.

On Saturday morning, Shivakumar had left for work around 10 am. Reportedly Chaithravathi spoke to her brother over the mobile phone shortly after Shivakumar left. At around 11 am, Shivakumar is said to have called Chaitravathi but she did not answer the call.

Thus, Shivakumar informed her brother who then called her but there was no response. He got suspicious and went to her house, peeking inside through a window to find her hanging. He immediately notified the police who rushed to the spot and broke open the door. Her body was taken to a nearby hospital for post-mortem.

Reportedly the police recovered a one-page suicide note, dated March 11, when they checked through her belongings raising doubts that she might have tried to commit suicide in the past.

A high court lawyer by profession, Chaitravati was also into modeling. Police said that they are investigating if there was any dispute in the family.

2-month-old death note found: DCP

A suicide note written on March 11 was found at Chaitra’s house stating that no one is responsible for her death, DCP (North) Saidulu Adawat said. “We have come to know from the letter that the deceased was probably suffering from stress and depression. We are examining whether the letter was written by her or by someone else. The cause of death will be ascertained after the post-mortem report is received,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Bangalore Bar Association has demanded a proper probe into her death. In a letter to the Bengaluru Police Commissioner and DCP (North), Association President Vivek Subta Reddy, General Secretary T.G. Ravi, and Treasurer M.T. Harish said that the death has come as a shock to the entire legal fraternity.

Therefore, a thorough probe should be conducted into the matter. As we know from her friends, Chaitra was very brave. She was not a woman who would commit suicide, they claimed.

Take good care of your daughter, states death note

In the suicide note allegedly written by the deceased Chaitravati, she said, “My husband is very good. You too should enjoy life. Take good care of your daughter. I am suffering from depression. I tried to get out of it but couldn’t. I am ending my life here. I know it’s wrong to commit suicide. However, I am ending my life by suicide.” The reason for her depression remains unclear.
