A 30-year-old woman, who had set herself ablaze on April 20 night, passed away on Tuesday night at Victoria Hospital where she was being treated for the burn injuries.

The deceased Shajiya, a resident of Matadahalli had reportedly set herself ablaze after pouring sanitizer on her body following a fight with her husband and mother-in-law.

Following her death, Shajiya’s mother filed a complaint with the police accusing her husband and in-law of harassment. Based on her complaint police have booked a case of abetment to suicide against Shajiya’s husband Imran and mother-in-law Nazeema.

Shajiya and Imran had been married for over seven years and have two children. It is gathered that Imran had been chiding Shajiya saying that she had a dark complexion and wasn’t beautiful. His mother too supported Imran during their petty quarrels.

On April 20 Imran and Nazeema, fought with Shajiya over food. She then went to her room and set herself ablaze. Imran, his brother, Rizwan and Nazeema doused the fire and admitted her to a hospital.
