The arrested identified as Samarjit Singh, 36, is a habitual offender and was out on bail when he attempted the ATM theft using gas cutters, police said.
Officials at Canara Bank while scrutinizing the CCTV footage noticed a man who had been visiting the kiosk for a few days in a row. As per their statements, Singh had tampered with the card reader of the ATM machine and had cut the LAN cable during his visits.
The officials found his behaviour suspicious and thus notified the police who then deputed policemen in plain-clothes to monitor the area
On the day of the incident, Singh was again spotted entering the kiosk and pulling its shutters. The police acted swiftly and nabbed him in the act.
They confiscated the gas cutter and other implements used in the crime.
