B’luru: Man poses as prospective flatmate steals phone, Rs 50k

A person posing as a prospective flatmate and seeking to see an apartment stole a mobile phone and Rs 50,000 from the person.
The victim, Ashutosh Mishra, a bank staffer lives with a flatmate named Divyam in Kashi Nagar, Byatarayanapura, North Bengaluru. In order to save money, the duo thought of sharing the apartment with another person and thus had posted online saying he was looking for a roommate.
A person responded to the advert and sought details of the place. On August 6, the man who identified himself as Anvesh, a native of Andhra Pradesh met Divyam and Mishra and looked up the flat. Later, he told them that he liked the place and would move in next month.
Meanwhile, Mishra said that he had to use the washroom while Divyam got a call. Taking advantage of the situation, Anvesh pocketed Mishra’s phone and left in a hurry saying that his driver had arrived.
When Mishra came out of the washroom, he noticed that his phone was missing. When he tried calling the number, it was switched off.
Later Mishra checked his bank balance online and was shocked to find that Rs 50,000 had been siphoned.
He registered a case with Amruthahalli police in this regard.
