B’luru: Police arrest trio for bike thefts

Seshadripuram Police have arrested three persons on charges of stealing two-wheelers by using duplicate keys and breaking the handle lock.
The arrested are identified as Avinash (34) of Mandya, Sasikumar (35) and Rahul (36) – both natives of Hassan. Police seized 20 two-wheelers worth Rs 25 lakhs from their possession.
Recently, two of the arrested had been detained by patrol police after they noticed them behaving suspiciously. Moreover, their bike did not number plate. Upon interrogation, the issue of two-wheeler thefts came to light.
Police said that around 20 cases of vehicle theft were registered in different stations of Bengaluru, Chikkamagaluru, Mandya, Davangere and Hassan districts were solved after the trio’s arrest.
The accused had been working as cab drivers in Bengaluru for many years. However, their businesses suffered losses due to the pandemic and since then they resorted to bike thefts. They would roam different parts of the state including Bengaluru and target bikes parked in front of houses.
The accused would sell the stolen bikes for a low amount in rural areas after convincing the buyer that they would hand over the vehicle documents later.
