A rape-accused man who had fled to Abu Dhabi was extradited from the country based on a red corner notice (RCN) issued against him.
The arrested Midhun Chandran (32) from Kannur, Kerala. He was booked on charges of rape based on the complaint of a woman who worked at a Whitefield-based company where Midhun was also employed as a software engineer in the year 2016.
The woman had lodged with the Mahadevpur police in February 2020 alleging that Midhun had forced her into a physical relationship after assuring her of marriage but later backtracked on his promise. She also alleged of mental harassment and verbal abuse at his hand.
Based on the complaint police had arrested Chandran but he secured a conditional bail. Later he moved to Abu Dhabi for employment and skipped the court hearings. When he failed to comply with court summons a non-bailable warrant was issued against him. Subsequently, an Interpol red corner notice was also issued against him.
Recently Chandran had visited the embassy in Abu Dhabi for some documentation work. Officers at the embassy noticed that a RCN was issued against him and alerted the Interpol officers who later took him into custody.
Mahadevpur police station was informed of the arrest and they collaborated with Interpol via CBI channels to extradite Chandran to Bengaluru. After completing legal procedures in Abu Dhabi, Mahadevpur police personnel escorted Chandran back to Bengaluru where he was presented before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
