Several people, including 10 policemen who were posted for security duty at a protest at Freedom Park here, sustained injuries after being stung by honey bees on Thursday.
As per reports, few organizations had planned a protest at Freedom Park and hence police were deployed here for the bandobast duty. Luckily the protest had not started when the swarm of bees descended on the group out of nowhere.
Two, among the policemen injured, were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a nearby hospital.
DCP (West), Sanjeev Patil, said that honey bees attacked the ‘bandobast’ staff, including lady police officers.
It is yet to be ascertained whether the honey bees attacked naturally or it was a deliberate act by some miscreants, Patil said.
