Bengaluru: In a heartbreaking incident, two siblings tragically drowned after accidentally falling into a lake while playing. The incident occurred in the Kengeri police station limits on Monday evening.
The victims, identified as Johnson (13) and Mahalaxmi (11), residents of Harsha Layout, were the children of a woman named Jayamma. The incident took place around 5:30 PM at a lake near the Kengeri bus station.
According to reports, Johnson and Mahalaxmi were playing along the walking path of the lake when a container they were playing with rolled into the water. Mahalaxmi went down to the lake to retrieve it, but tragically slipped and began to drown. Seeing his sister struggling, Johnson rushed to her rescue and entered the lake. Unfortunately, both siblings drowned.
Upon being alerted, the police rushed to the scene and informed the fire department. Firefighters immediately initiated a search operation in the lake, but the children could not be located by nightfall. The search was suspended as darkness set in and was to resume on Tuesday morning.
A case has been registered at the Kengeri police station, and further investigation is underway.
