Bengaluru: Even after the Karnataka High Court’s intervention the Hijab controversy refuses to die down. On Saturday the controversy reached the State’s capital Bengaluru.
Ignoring the high court’s interim order for no religious attire at schools, a section of Muslim students arrived at the Vidyasagar High School in Chandra Layout wearing hijabs on Saturday. However, the school authorities refused to allow the students to attend classes citing the high court’s directives.
A message to this effect was also posted on the school’s notice board. Parents of some of the students alleged that the school used obscene language in the message. The school authorities denied the allegations.
The atmosphere turned tense at the school premises as hundreds of people gathered in front of the school’s gates. DDPI and other officials of the education department visited the school and tried to pacify the angry crowd.
Efforts are on to send back the parents who are still protesting in front of the school. Police have been deployed to control the situation at the school.
