Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner, Gaurav Gupta on Thursday said that crematoriums are being shut in the city because they were set up as temporary facilities to cater to the COVID-19 situation.
“Now deaths are in reasonable numbers, so they are being decommissioned. We’re going ahead with regular crematoriums as the number of deaths is b/w 40-50 every day,” he added.
He further said, ” We took nearly 13,000 beds but their utilization was limited due to a sharp reduction in cases with over 10,000 vacant beds. We decided to let go of some beds”
