An on-duty police constable’s timely action helped save the life of a critically ill patient who was being taken to Cytecare Cancer Hospital in Yelahanka on Tuesday afternoon.

The patient had suffered a stroke and was being moved to Cytecare on the advise of the doctors who treated him at Gleneagles for Cerebral Venous Thrombosis (blood clot of a vein in the brain).

The ambulance in which he was being taken to Cytecare suffered a tyre burst and came to a sudden halt near Palace Road here. The relatives of the patient began to panic when a replacement ambulance did not arrive for over 15 minutes.

Kasappa Kallur, attached to Cubbon Park traffic police station who was on duty at that time came forward to their help and repaired the puncture.

The patient was later taken to Cytecare and is said to be in a stable condition.

The constable’s act has been commended by the police and public in general. On Wednesday Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) B R Ravikanthe Gowda rewarded Kallura with a bonus of Rs 5,000 for his helpful deed.
