In a tragic incident, three B.Sc. students were killed on the spot after a lorry hit their bike and ran over them on the airport road near Chikkajala, late Wednesday night.
The deceased Suchit (22), a resident of Kempapura, Hebbal; Harshavardhan (21) from KGF, Kolar district; and Rohit (21) from Chikkaballapur were final-year B.Sc. (Horticulture) students at GKVK.
It is gathered that the trio had attended a friend’s birthday party. After the celebration, they set out on a joyride, with three students on one bike and two others on another.
The accident occurred around 1 a.m. on Wednesday when a lorry collided with their bike, causing the three students to fall onto the road. It is gathered that the students came under the rear wheels of the truck and died on the spot.
The lorry driver fled the scene without stopping the vehicle.
Chikkajala traffic police arrived at the scene, conducted an investigation, and sent the bodies to Ambedkar Hospital. The victim’s families were informed about the mishap after gathering details from the students’ ID cards found in their wallets.
Police registered a case and began inspecting the CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the vehicle.
Based on CCTV footage from the toll booths and other nearby locations, police identified the lorry’s registration number. They later arrested the driver for questioning.
