B’luru: Youth steal bikes to clear debts raised for gambling; arrested

Three persons who were involved in bike thefts and gambling in a bid to make easy money and lead a luxurious life were arrested by Bengaluru police in two separate cases.
In the first instance, Laxmipathy, 24, a native of Andhra Pradesh was arrested from Kuppam. Police seized 10 bikes valued at Rs 4 lakh from his possession.
The arrested was employed in a factory near Hosur here. His addiction to gambling led him to be debt-ridden. As he had no means to clear the debts he resorted to stealing two-wheelers and using the sale proceeds to clear the loans. He had conducted thefts at Bengaluru’s Adugodi and Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu. A case in this regard was registered with BharatNagar police.
In the other case, Basaveshnagar police arrested two persons for stealing bikes from parking lots and residential areas. The arrested are identified as Mohammed Yousuf Sharif (26) and Fareed Khan (28).
Eight bikes valued at Rs 6.5 lakhs were recovered from their possession. A case had been registered against the duo in connection with KTM bike theft on May 13.
According to the police the duo is involved in several other bike thefts and details are being collected.
