Boat tragedy: 2 FIRs lodged; magisterial probe ordered

Baghpat (UP) : A magisterial probe was today ordered into the boat capsize incident in the district and two separate FIRs registered against the boatman and 50 unidentified persons for holding violent protests after the incident.
19 people drowned and a few others went missing after an overloaded boat capsized in the Yamuna river yesterday. The boat was carrying 60 people, of whom 15 people were rescued and 20 others swam to safety.
“A magisterial probe has been ordered into the incident.
SDM Sadar Vivek Kumar will conduct the probe,” District Magistrate Bhawani Singh said. The police registered an FIR lodged against boatman Riyazuddin by village chowkidar Salauddin in connection with the incident in Katha village.
Another FIR against 50 persons has also been registered on charges of indulging in violence and damaging vehicles to protest the incident.
